An average hacker will not try to compromise the algorithm (the VME algorithm is proven to be unbreakable) itself.  Rather, he or she will attack from a much simpler angle - the lack of proper security procedures.  For instance, if the user encrypted all his files using a 2 digit number - then a hacker does not need to break VME, he just needs to guess which 2 digits the user chose to encrypt the file. User intelligence can be compromised by trying passwords or keywords related to the user's environment, such as his phone number, SSN, wife or kids name etc.  Use of such obvious passwords constitutes poor security procedures.
